Family Travel Tips

Nothing is more enjoyable than taking off to distant locations where everyone in your family can share a life-changing experience. If you can pack your bags and get your family loaded in the van right now, do it. But, always make sure you take heed of these family travel tips to ensure everyone has a wonderful and safe vacation.

Take it Easy

When there are children involved in a trip you should make sure you slow down the pace. In fact, you should expect things to go a little slower and even awry. The joy of traveling in a group – especially one that has everyone you love in it – is that you slow down and appreciate each other’s company more.

Be patient. There will be flight delays, missed bookings and rainy days. If it is out of your control and you can’t do anything about it, make sure you realize it and sit back to enjoy the ride. If you really think about it, it is an adventure of sorts when you’re not in control of the way forward.

Make sure you have at least 4 to 5 days to enjoy your trip. Anything less than that and it really won’t be worth it: jet lag and the short time constraint will add to your stress. If you can, make the first and last days “down days” – do nothing but rest and get ready to switch gears.

Book Airplane Seats in the Right Order

If there are car seats or boosters involved, make sure they get the window seat on the airplane  as it is both easier to get in and out of your seat and it is also, for safety reasons, illegal to have to exit and enter a row over a car seat or booster. Make sure you book full rows for the whole family.

Bring Lots of Entertainment

Kids are easily bored; and once they are bored it can start to fray your nerves. For everyone’s sake make sure you bring lots of distractions: books, crayons, games, toys, and favorite comfort items… anything you can think of that will calm your young ones’ nervous energy.
