The Passenger from Hell – Horror Stories from 30,000 Ft. above the Ground

The Passenger from Hell

Flying – especially when there is a long, sunny and sandy vacation awaiting you at the end of it – can be quite an enjoyable experience. Unless you’re one of those people who spend most of their lives passing through airports and zipping across the world, the novelty of air travelling never really wears off.

But then just like with everything that is nice, there is always one thing that can ruin that pleasant experience for everyone on board an aircraft: The Passenger from Hell.

Below are some of the most striking stories what such passengers from hell have done at over 30,000 ft. – most will make you cringe.

Last year, a Thai Air Asia flight from Bangkok, Thailand, to Nanjing, China, was forced to turn back mid-flight after a passenger threw hot water and noodles at a cabin crew member following an altercation. Apparently, the passenger – a Chinese woman – was ticked off because she couldn’t sit next to her boyfriend.

Then there was that United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Accra Ghana that had to be turned back just a few minutes into flight – with too heavy a payload of fuel it was to use on the long-haul flight – and caused the US Air Force to scramble two F-16’s as the 767 circled the airport to burn fuel.

The reason for the turn around? A passenger reclined his seat back into the passenger behind him who responded with a whack to the head. Things escalated from there, the crew and passengers jumped into the melee and that’s when the captain decided it was better to head back.

And then there was this South African passenger who decided a flight from Johannesburg to London Heathrow was the ideal place to watch porn on his laptop. Yes, he was drunk.

When the cabin crew told him to stop what he was doing, he flew into the “worst-ever case of air rage” and injured three stewards and caused tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage. This perfect passenger from hell was so out of his senses he asked an ex-soldier who was trying to restrain him to “step outside” – mid-flight.
