Travel Destinations That Are Off the Beaten Path

Travel destinations that are off the beaten path

Somewhere in the world there is that place where you can really, really get away from it all. Travelers have always sought travel destinations that are off the beaten path for one of many reasons: to avoid the maddening hustle and bustle that is the norm in popular tourist destinations, to go off to a place where one can commune with one’s own self, to witness a part of the world that hasn’t been seen or spoiled by hordes of tourists or to be part of a culture and environment that hasn’t been corrupted or damaged – a certainty in almost every popular tourist hub.

Below are three travel destinations that are off the beaten path for the next time you are up for a vacation and don’t want to be jostled by the seasonal crowds:

Robinson Crusoe Island

It’s only appropriate to start with an island that was named after a man who was stranded on it for

five years and lived in solitude for all that time.

Located 670 km off the coast of Chile (3 hours flight) the island was where, in 1704, Alexander Selkirk was landed after a falling out with his ship’s captain. He survived for almost 5 years before he was rescued. His story is thought to be the inspiration behind Daniel Defoe’s “The Life and Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.”

Today that island attracts hundreds of tourists every year and is a great place for scuba diving.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Experiencing India is, well, a once-in-a-lifetime experience in itself. Culture, tradition, gastronomical delights and the natural beauty of the country have attracted everyone from hippies to those seeking enlightenment for decades.

But there’s one drawback to visiting India – everyone and his cousin wants to go there as it is one of the world’s most popular travel destinations. Almost everywhere you go you can expect a mad rush of tourists.

But you can escape to the Andaman and Nicobar islands. They are a group of about 300 islands that sit 1370 km away from the eastern coast of mainland India. Although only a dozen of the Andaman Islands are open to tourists (the Nicobar Islands are strictly off limits), almost all of them are famous for their white beaches, lush greenery and beautiful sunsets.
